Event Description: Join Outdoor Recreation for a scenic paddle on the Blackwater River. This is a "Nationally Recognized and Designated Trail" located in the heart of a Protected Wilderness area in the Francis Marion National Forest.
Named for its black tannic waters, the Black River has long been a favorite of paddlers in the Lowcountry and beyond. The river flows through bottomland forest along most of its length and offers excellent birding and wildlife watching opportunities. This free-flowing Coastal Plains River has been the designation of being a State Scenic River, giving you the opportunity to paddle down a pristine river corridor of towering bald cypress trees, black willow and pine. Supporting a myriad of wildlife including turkeys, hawks, wood ducks, night herons and swallow-tailed kites, this is a protected haven for resident and migratory fauna.
