Event Description: Join Outdoor Recreation for a scenic paddle on the Blackwater River. This is a "Nationally Recognized and Designated Trail" located in the heart of a Protected Wilderness area in the Francis Marion National Forest. Named for its black tannic waters, the Black River has long been a favorite of paddlers in the Lowcountry and beyond. The river flows through bottomland forest along most of its length and offers excellent birding and wildlife watching opportunities. This free-flowing Coastal Plains River has been the designation of being a State Scenic River, giving you the opportunity to paddle down a pristine river corridor of towering bald cypress trees, black willow and pine. Supporting a myriad of wildlife including turkeys, hawks, wood ducks, night herons and swallow-tailed kites, this is a protected haven for resident and migratory fauna. Pricing Non R4R pricing: $140.00 R4R pricing $70.00 This is slow moving fresh black water and is perfect for beginners. No experience is needed. Trip is open to ages 12 and up. Transportation, water and snacks are provided. The kayaking outfitter provides all necessary kayaking gear. Please bring a sack lunch and any other snacks you might want for your time on the river. We will be stopping for dinner on the way back so please bring spending money if you want to buy food.
